Join us for a special performance and discussion with Mahsa Salali as we celebrate the final days of transfeminisms' third chapter, Fragile Archives.
Salali’s "I Float Like a Rock" is a performance that culminates years of her research on femicide and stoning in Islamic culture. In this powerful piece, Salali’s body is buried under rocks, with additional rocks precariously floating above her. As the artist gradually frees herself from the weight, the audience is invited to watch and walk around her, reflecting how issues of femicide and homophobia permeate every society, including our own.
In this closing chapter performance, Salali will explore how sound and live reactionary performance can serve as a fragile archival practice, commemorating the forgotten lives and fates of oppressed individuals.
Mahsa Salali is an Iranian multidisciplinary performance artist, contemporary pianist, sound artist, activist, and curator. Her work focuses on the female position in society, the notion of modesty, and the relationship with one’s own body.
This event has been curated by Rosy Leake, Shannon Best and Sophie Barrett-Pouleau in response to Chapter III: Fragile Archives of Mimosa House’s exhibition transfeminisms: a major survey touring show, that brings to light a multiplicity of urgent, pressing and ongoing issues faced by women, queer and trans people across the globe.
